Description
Glendevon House is a large Tudor Gothic single-storey villa dated 'R 1818' in the entrance hall, which incorporates part of a house built in 1766 at the back. It is considered outstanding for its architectural style and is attributed to James Gillespie Graham. The villa is constructed of red and black rubble with ashlar dressings and features a broad-eaved piend roof. All the sash windows have perpendicular traceried heads.
The north front has splay angles that are corbelled to a square, with a central projection that includes a three-window canted bay of lancet windows. The side windows are only two panes wide, and there is a one-four centre arched window on either side. The northern part of the west front has a two-window arrangement with a centre advanced entrance bay featuring four-centre arches, while the southern section has square-headed windows with hoodmoulds.
Inside, the villa has an interesting interior with good Gothic doorcases throughout, plain ceilings, and an octagonal library. The long central hall is lit by twin oculi, and there is a small dining room also illuminated by an oculus. Additionally, there are some good original grates.
