Description
Kilgraston House is an 18th-century building designed by Francis Grant, likely with local professional assistance, after 1793. It features an Adam style classic design with a mix of gothic and other unique details. The house has two storeys and a full basement, with a south front that includes nine windows made of squared droved rubble. The basement is rusticated and features a Doric porch.
The centrepiece of the façade has tetrastyle Corinthian composite pilasters, with the end bays advanced and adorned with pediments and Venetian windows supported by slim Doric columns at the main floor. The remainder of the building is constructed from rubble with ashlar dressings, and includes corner pavilions with crenellated sides and back. Hood moulds are present over the main floor Venetian windows and gothic windows above.
Inside, there is fine classical work, including a segmentally vaulted entrance hall and staircase. There is a poor addition on the west side and a modern chapel school quadrangle at the rear.
