Description
The Iron Bridge at Balthayock Den, built around 1870, is a cast-iron bridge with a clear span of 92 feet. It features a segmental arch ring made from five sections and has lattice-braced spandrels. The bridge includes a 13-foot carriageway supported by brackets and is adorned with a decorative cast-iron balustrade along the span. At the abutments, there are pylons constructed from coursed rubble with rock-faced quoins, and above these are rectangular ashlar panelled and coped piers. The bridge has outward curving parapets on the approaches. The south abutment features a segmental-headed pedestrian arch that accommodates a pleasure walk on the south side of Balthayock Den.
