Craig House, Duchess Street, Stanley

Craig House is a late Georgian mill manager's house set in a large garden. It is a substantial two-storey and attic building with a gabled rectangular shape. The front features three windows, and the gables have three windows with single central wood-mullioned attic bipartites. The structure is built from rubble with raised droved margins, and it has broad eaves at the gables and broad end stacks. At the back, there is a single-storey harled outshot with a piended roof. The roofs are slated, and the original glazing remains intact. The doorpiece has been enclosed within an early 20th-century concave-roofed porch, and there is a modern sun lounge on the west gable, which has resulted in the lower three windows being obliterated. The interior is plain, featuring six-panelled doors. The rear garden wall and outbuildings are later additions made of brick, while the original garden walls and gatepiers are located on Perth Road.
