Description
The fountain at East Lodge Fishing Hut, located within the parkland of Murthly Castle, dates from the early to earlier 19th century. This fine classical drinking fountain is made of squared rubble with stugged and polished ashlar dressings. It is positioned on raised ground overlooking the River Tay, just southwest of the separately listed Fishing Hut. The fountain features a rectangular-plan stepped area and a low coped wall that incorporates a taller drinking fountain. This fountain has a pilastered stand with a raised semicircular pediment at the center, which is above a deeply moulded panel. Below this panel is a stone bowl on a plinth, featuring a relief carved lion's head water spout and an incised inscription.
