Clunie Footbridge, Loch Faskally

Clunie Footbridge is an aluminium footbridge built between 1948 and 1950 over the River Tummel at Loch Faskally by the North of Scotland Hydro Electric Board. The consulting engineers for the project were Sir Alexander Gibb & Partners, while the contractors were P. & W. McLennan Ltd from Glasgow. The aluminium alloys used in the construction were supplied by James Booth & Co. Ltd, and the concrete piers were built by William Tawse from Aberdeen.

The bridge features a cantilevered design with a shallow-arched deck, measuring 95 metres in length. It has a central span of approximately 53 metres and two side spans of 21 metres each. The walkway is 2 metres wide. The structure includes aluminium alloy trusses, handrails, arched soffits, walkway, and rivets. The trusses are arranged in a mirrored 'N' formation between the soffits and the handrail. The bridge is supported by two concrete piers that taper slightly above the water level, with tapering concrete block abutments at both ends of the bridge.
