Description
Meggernie Castle is a four-storey and attic tower house featuring fine dormer heads and square pyramid-roofed corbelled angle turrets. The doorway is adorned with enriched moulding. It is attributed to the early 17th century, with a date of 1673 noted at the dormer head. An east wing, possibly added in 1673, is two storeys and an attic, and has been remodelled in the style of Bryce. A three-storey and attic section was inserted in 1848. The early 19th century saw the addition of a central gateway flanked by crenellated walls, leading to the eastern service court, which is now the entrance. The south wall was crenellated in 1959. The castle is harled and features crowstepped gables throughout.
