Description
Ballingall Farm is a single-storey and attic farmhouse from the mid-19th century, featuring three bays and situated on a hill with a garden that slopes to the south. The principal south elevation is constructed of squared and snecked brown whin rubble in courses, accented by contrasting cream ashlar dressings and long and short quoins, while the subsidiary elevations are finished in random rubble. The roof is pitched and slated, with stepped masonry skews, and the gable ends showcase Jacobethan style ashlar stacks with three octagonal shafts on both the east and west sides.
The south entrance elevation has three regular bays, with a central entrance that features a white-painted corniced doorpiece and a three-pane fanlight above the outer door, flanked by consoles that support the cornice. There are single windows on either side at ground level, each with square hood moulds. The attic windows break through the eaves with gabletted dormer heads, also featuring stepped masonry skews and masonry finials.
On the west gable, there is a single window at ground level to the left, while the east gable has a single door at ground level to the right, which has been altered into a window, and a small window above it at low level on the upper floor. This bay appears to have been previously concealed by a now-demolished wing. At the rear, there is a single-storey wing with a flat-roofed dormer window addition over the wallhead to the west, stepped masonry skews at the gable end, and an apex stack with a single octagonal shaft raised on a plinth. Additionally, there is a three-quarter circle plan stair outshot in the northwest re-entrant angle, with a slated roof that sweeps down to follow the slope of the main roof. The interior was not seen in 1992.
