Sundial, Ardblair Castle

The sundial at Ardblair Castle is situated in a courtyard and is part of an original small L-plan tower house located at the northwest angle of the court. The structure features two storeys, a basement, and an attic, along with a corbelled stair tower on the north side, although the upper part of this tower has been restored. Notable Renaissance sculpture can be found on the doorway in the re-entrant angle on the east side. The remainder of the building consists of two storeys, a single storey, and an attic, primarily dating from the 18th century. It underwent significant remodelling in 1908. The north wall of the courtyard showcases a fine Renaissance gateway that is dated 1668. The interiors are mostly simple and date mainly from the 18th century, except for the south and parts of the east wing. The long gallery on the west side and only the first floor of the tower house are panelled.
