Description
The Steading at Newton Castle is a 17th-century building that was altered by Robert Macpherson in 1993. This small U-plan former steading has been converted into offices and a store, constructed from random rubble with large squared rubble quoins.
On the southeast elevation, there is a multi-pane glazing pattern in the two-leaf door at the center of the ground floor, with a similar pattern in the fixed window above in the piended hayloft. To the left, there is a small window, and in the penultimate bay to the left, there is a two-leaf part-glazed timber door, along with an altered window beyond. The outer left bay has been altered, while the outer right features a door with a small square opening above it, and an advanced piended bay with two two-leaf doors (each with a similar opening above) and a single door on the return to the left. All doors are made of boarded timber.
The northeast elevation has a bay to the right of center with a sliding boarded timber door and timber infill above, which includes a tripartite window.
On the northwest (rear) elevation, there is a blinded bay to the left of center, with two irregular windows to the right and a lower bay on the outer right.
The building showcases a variety of glazing patterns in its timber windows and is topped with fibre roof tiles.
