Description
Edradour Distillery, located in Milton of Edradour, dates from the mid 19th century and may incorporate earlier materials. It was extended in the 1950s and altered in the late 20th century by Brander of Elgin. The complex includes a two-storey mash and stillhouse, a single-storey five-bay warehouse range, a distillery manager's office, a cottage, and a former kiln and malt barn. The buildings are slated, with whitewashed and lined render over rubble and brick.
The mash and stillhouse features a two-storey range with doors located in the centre and right bays, along with a broad sliding door on the outer left. The north elevation has a gabled design with a window on the right at ground level and a door in the gablehead. Inside, there is traditional manually operated equipment, including Morton's Copper Refrigerator wort cooler, marked 'Robert Willison Copper Works Alloa 1933'. It also contains two Oregon pine washbacks, and two copper swan neck stills, with the bottom boles replaced in 1983 and swan necks replaced in 1999 using copper from A Forsyth & Sons; the wash still has a capacity of 4000 litres, while the spirit still has a capacity of 2000 litres.
The bonded warehouses and stores have a west elevation featuring five piended bays with a variety of timber door and window openings. The malt barn, which serves as a reception centre, and the kiln have a south elevation with a central door and a forestair leading to a hayloft opening at the first floor, along with additional doors in the outer bays. The kiln has an altered pagoda that is set back to the outer left.
The cottage, which functions as a shop and office, is a three-bay structure with a central door and flanking windows, extended at the rear. The site is also marked by square-section, pyramidally-coped ashlar gatepiers with ironwork railings.
