Description

Ashtrees is a house dated 1764 at the rear, with later alterations and additions. It was possibly originally a single storey building that was later raised and re-orientated. The structure is a 2-storey, 3-bay house situated on high ground overlooking Loch Leven. At the rear, there is a single storey workshop range that has now been incorporated into the house. To the southeast, there is a row of single storey former weavers' cottages, which were originally thatched and are now used as outbuildings. The house features whitewashed rubble, harled gables, and painted ashlar margins, with plate glass sashes, renewed skews, roof tiles, and harled stacks.

The front (southwest) elevation has a modern glazed porch projecting at the centre, which obscures the original doorway. There are windows flanking the ground floor and three windows on the first floor. A small window is located on the northwest gable at the first floor, while the southeast gable is blind. The rear (northeast) elevation features a lintel dated 1764, incorporating the initials JW above a former doorway that is now blocked. To the right, there is a window and a modern link corridor leading to the single storey former workshop range, which adjoins at right angles. This area has been converted into a large sitting room, with a door and enlarged flanking windows on each elevation.

The former weavers' cottages consist of a terrace of two cottages, now with two large vehicular openings. They are currently used for garaging and storage. The original window has been retained at the outer right, while a smaller, later window is present on the southeast gable. The cottages have a steeply pitched roof with ashlar coped skews and corrugated sheet metal roof coverings.
