Description
Kinnesswood, located on Main Street, is an early 18th-century house with an Arts and Crafts-style addition at the rear, designed by James Scott of St Andrews around 1905. This two-storey building features harled walls and a slate roof. The northern elevation is asymmetrical, with a door on the left that has a cornice and a partially moulded doorcase. To the right, there are two windows at the ground floor and two more at the first floor, all with chamfered margins. The roof has corniced stacks.
On the eastern gable, there is a window on the first floor to the right and a stack at the gablehead. The southern elevation includes a glazed door leading to the original house on the left, with a forestair featuring cast-iron balusters that leads to a door at the adjoining Roselea West. The first floor has windows, and to the right, there is a projecting wing from around 1905. This wing has a slightly advanced gable at the center that widens at the first floor, featuring a 10-pane window that opens like a door, flanked by two 10-pane sash and case windows. The first floor has a tripartite window with a half-timbered gable and bargeboards, and the roof has exposed rafters and a piended design.
Inside, the house contains original 19th and early 20th-century chimneypieces, with one on the first floor possibly dating back to the 18th century, featuring projecting cheeks. Some doors have fielded panels. The dining room, created around 1905, showcases dado and half-timbered ceilings adorned with four embossed leather panels, each depicting the Imperial Crown alongside a dragon, harp, rose, or thistle. Other areas of the ceiling have a suede-like covering with stylized paintings of thistles and roses, along with an original sanctuary-type lamp.
