Description
The property comprises a walled garden and a former manse, dating to circa 1840, with an earlier 19th-century wing. The manse presents a roughly L-shaped footprint, consisting of a two-storey, three-bay rectangular main block and a single-storey and attic wing to the west. The main block displays a symmetrical design with a crowstepped gable to the earlier west wing, and a lean-to structure at its west end, containing a dovecote. The building is harled with ashlar dressings.
The east-facing elevation features a gabled rectangular porch centrally positioned, with a window to the front. Steps lead up to a boarded timber door on the left return, with a window to the right return; another window sits above. Flanking windows are present on each floor. The north elevation displays two windows to each floor on the main block. The earlier wing adjoins to the right, also with two ground-floor windows (one now blocked). The end wall of the dovecote lean-to abuts the outer right, with an entrance to the left and a small window to the right. The south elevation features two windows to each floor on the main block (the rightmost first-floor window is blocked). The earlier wing is set back to the left, with a central entrance and a window to the right. The end wall of the dovecote lean-to projects to the left, with an entrance to the right return and a small window to the left, accompanied by three flightholes with ledges above. The west elevation shows the gable end of the earlier wing projecting to the left; the lean-to extends across the entire width, projecting to the right, with a small window to the left of centre. A stair window is set back on the main block, with an inserted window below and a small inserted window to the left of the first floor.
The windows are mainly 12-pane timber sash and case. The main block has a piended Welsh slate roof, while the earlier wing to the west and the adjoining lean-to have Caithness slate roofs. The roof of the wing section of the lean-to has been partially replaced with corrugated perspex, with a rooflight on the north pitch. Stacks with band courses are present at the apex of the north and south pitches of the main block, a corniced gablehead stack is on the west wing, and round cans top the stacks.
Inside, the manse retains an open well staircase with a cast-iron balustrade and barley-sugar twist balusters. The plan form is largely intact, and decorative marble fireplace surrounds and ceiling cornices are present in some rooms. A part-glazed panelled timber door is set within a glazed screen at the main entrance within the porch, with other largely panelled timber doors throughout. An attic room in the west wing contains a box bed. The dovecote lean-to features large recessed nesting boxes.
The walled garden is enclosed by a coursed rubble wall forming a rectangular plan to the southeast. An entrance gateway is located to the west, with a blocked entrance to the east and an inserted entrance to the north. A lower height rubble wall encloses the land on each side of the former manse, with an additional section linking the east end of the manse to the west end of the walled garden. Two entranceways are present to the north, with the eastern one featuring rendered square-plan gatepiers with pyramid coping.
