Description
Barrenha is a single-storey, two-bay cottage located in North Ronaldsay, built in an asymmetrical rectangular plan with a lean-to addition on the south side. There is also a detached single-storey, five-bay byre situated to the southwest of the cottage, constructed from random rubble.
On the south elevation, the principal facade features a window in the centre of the lean-to addition, a window on the left return, and a boarded door on the right return. There is an additional window in the bay to the left.
The north elevation, or rear, has a window in each bay of the two-bay lean-to on the left, along with a blocked door in the lean-to on the right.
On the west side, there is a window set to the left with a gablehead stack above it, and a door in the lean-to addition on the outer left.
The cottage has timber-framed windows and a traditional Orkney flagstone roof, with rubble corniced gablehead stacks. Inside, there are extant box beds and a timber chimneypiece.
