Description

The War Memorial in Papa Westray is an obelisk built in the earlier 20th century. Made of pink granite, it features a square-plan plinth with a tiered base. The memorial is dedicated to the men who died during World War I and includes a rectangular plaque that commemorates those who died during World War II. Each face of the inscribed shaft has a decorative pedimented section, and the obelisk is topped with a spider web carved onto one face. Surrounding the memorial is a three-sided flagstone wall.
