Description
The building is a library located at 72 Lochend Road in Gartcosh, designed by Gavin Lennox in 1933. It is a single-storey, irregular-plan cottage that was built as a war memorial nurses' home. The exterior features harl with ashlar dressings and a piended slate roof with swept eaves. It has timber sash and case windows and coped stacks.
The front elevation includes an advanced crowstepped gable at the center, which has a tripartite diocletian window. To the right, there is a recessed bay with a tripartite window, and to the left, a recessed bay contains a modern glazed addition that masks the original entrance doorway. The left return elevation is blank, while the right return elevation has a window.
The interior details were not seen.
The property also features two cream ashlar gatepiers with mannered caps and finials, each displaying a plaque commemorating those who died in the First and Second World Wars. There are metal gates and serpentinata railings, although most of the railings have been removed and replaced by an out-of-character plastic fence.
