Description
148 Main Street is the Overtown Parish Church Manse, built in the later 19th century. This two-storey, three-bay building has an asymmetrical rectangular plan and features a steeply raked roof. The exterior is made of squared and tooled sandstone with ashlar margins around the openings, which have chamfered reveals.
On the southeast (principal) elevation, there is an advanced porch with a lean-to roof, featuring a pointed arch entrance and a square-headed door with a pointed arch fanlight. To the right, an advanced gabled bay contains two windows on both the ground and first floors, along with a gablehead chimney. To the left, there is a window at ground level and a battered window with a gable that breaks the eaves.
The northwest (rear) elevation has an advanced single-storey lean-to bay on the right with a door to the left, and an advanced gabled bay to the right, which has a modern extension attached.
On the northeast (side) elevation, there is a bipartite window with a stone mullion at the rear. The southwest (side) elevation displays irregular fenestration.
The windows are stained wood, sash and case style. The roof is covered with graded grey slate, and there are stone gablehead stacks. The building features ashlar coped skews and bracketed skewputts. The boundary wall is constructed of squared sandstone coursers.
