Description

2 Millfield Cottages, dated 1890, is a single-storey building with a garret, designed in a symmetrical Greek cross-plan that combines cottages and a garage. It features a square-plan tower with a spire at the northwest corner, constructed from squared and snecked, tooled yellow sandstone. The building has exposed rafters and overhanging eaves.

On the east elevation, there is an advanced gabled bay at the center with an engaged wallhead chimney stack. Flanking windows are present, along with a small window to the left of the apex. To the right, there is an advanced lean-to porch with a door on the right return and a window to the right, topped by a finialed gable that breaks the eaves. A single narrow bay to the left includes a door with a modern glass porch.

The west elevation features an advanced gabled bay at the center, with two windows on the ground level and paired small windows at the apex. There is a blind bay to the left and a door to a narrow bay on the right.

On the north elevation, which faces Millfield House, there is a gabled bay with a segmental-arched garage door to the left, a door to the right, and a window at the apex. A low square-plan tower is located at the outer right, canted at the ground with a small square window at the center, and features a corbelled out eaves course. The 1890 datestone is positioned at the center, along with a corbelled timber cornice and spire.

The south elevation has a gabled bay with paired narrow windows at the outer edges on the ground level, and a round-arched window with a projecting cill at the apex.

The building has plate glass timber sash and case windows on the front and north side, while modern double glazing is used on the south and rear. The roof is covered with grey slates and lead flashing. The interior was not seen in 2000.
