Description

43-45 Clelland Road in Wishaw is a villa designed by James Cowie in 1903. This two-storey, three-bay building has an asymmetrical rectangular plan and features a broad, swept pantiled roof with gables and prominent tapered full-height wallhead chimney stacks. The exterior is finished in white rendered sandstone, accented with red sandstone margins and quoins. It has overhanging eaves, projecting rafters, and a red sandstone dividing cill course at the ground floor.

On the southeast (principal) elevation, there is a single-storey section with a round arch entrance to the center left, a Venetian window in the middle, and a box dormer above with a small gablet. To the right, there is a slightly advanced low gabled bay featuring a tripartite mullioned window. An advanced two-storey bay on the outer left has a rectangular three-light window with a lean-to pantiled roof and timber window frame below, and a bracketted, consoled oriel window above, which jetties at the apex of the gable.

The northwest (rear) elevation has regular single-light fenestration at ground level and an advanced bay to the center right, with a three-light stair window above that has stone mullions.

The southwest (side) elevation features a two-storey advanced canted bay at the center with a finialed piended roof and flanking full-height tapering wallhead chimney stacks. There is a single window to the left bay with a raked roof.

The northeast (side) elevation is a single storey with a small window at the far left. The villa has plate glass timber sash and case windows, red pantiles, and cast-iron rainwater goods.

The boundary wall is white rendered, scalloped, and topped with red sandstone coping.
