Description
The Coach House at Coltness House is a mid-19th century single-storey stable block designed in a square plan with seven bays. It features two-storey chamfered square corner pavilions at the rear and is constructed from polished ashlar sandstone. The building has a base course, a moulded eaves course beneath a plain blocking course, and rolled hood mouldings over the openings.
The principal elevation is symmetrical with seven bays and regular fenestration. At the center, there is an entrance archway with canted corner bays. The Tudor arch gateway has a parapet and block pediment, flanked by arrow slits.
The rear elevation is also symmetrical with seven bays. It has three small windows in the center bay, flanked by paired large timber mullioned and transomed windows. The two-storey corner pavilions feature narrow rectangular windows, except for a single square window in the center of the ground floor.
The north side elevation has seven bays with irregular fenestration, including a Tudor arch door with rolled moulding and steps to the outer right, located immediately to the left of the two-storey pavilion. The south side elevation also has seven bays with irregular fenestration and includes a two-storey bay at the far left.
The building features modern stained timber sash and case windows with lying panes, grey slate piended roofs with lead flashing, and cast-iron rainwater goods with square hoppers. Velux rooflights are also present.
The courtyard is symmetrical with five bays, featuring a Tudor-arch carriage entrance with a shouldered pediment at the center bay, flanked by swept shouldered parapets. It includes regularly articulated rectangular windows and carriage entrances.
The interior was not seen in 2000.
