Description

The building at 2-4 Belhaven Road in Wishaw is a late 19th-century bank, designed as a two-storey and attic tenement block with a symmetrical trapezoid plan, situated on a street corner. It features a full-height advanced semicircular bay at the prominent splayed angle, constructed from yellow ashlar sandstone. The design includes a slightly projected base course, a plain dividing band between the ground and first floors, and stugged architraved windows with bracketed projecting cills.

On the northeast (principal) elevation, the advanced bowed bay at the chamfered angle contains a segmental-arched panelled door at the center, framed by plain ashlar jambs and flanked by projecting ashlar margins. Above the door is a moulded arch with decorative carved spandrels and a consoled cornice, leading to a plain entablature beneath a three-windowed upper section. The upper section is capped with a plain cornice below a dentilled timber cornice.

The southwest (rear) elevation displays irregular fenestration, while the northwest (side) elevation is four bays wide. It has bipartite windows in the bay to the right of center, single windows in the remaining bays, and a square window on the first floor to the left. There are also two small square dormers with piended roofs.

The east (side) elevation features timber plate glass sash and case windows, a grey slate roof, and a coped chimney located at the center and rear southwest wallhead. The building also has cast-iron rainwater goods with rectangular hoppers. The interior was not seen in 2000.
