Description
Swinlees is a country house that underwent three main phases of construction, particularly in 1857 and 1865, when an older house was converted into an asymmetrical, two-storey, 'T'-plan Scots Baronial style. The building features stugged ashlar with polished dressings. The main entrance is located at the south-west, showcasing roll moulded architraves and a decorative panel above, along with a small corbelled bartizan at the right angle. To the left, there is a tower in the re-entrant angle, topped with a conical roof covered in banded fish-scale slates, and an advanced bay. There is a recessed bay on the left with a later porch. The windows are mainly mullioned, featuring hood-moulds or cornices. All gables are crowstepped, with some adorned with ball finials, and the roof is slate.
