Description

Eastwood, located at 9, 10, and 11 Marine Parade on Great Cumbrae Island, is a large marine double villa built in 1862, which has since been converted into six houses. The building features decorative window treatments and French roofs, and it was renovated between 1988 and 1989. It stands two storeys tall with an attic and has a symmetrical design with three window bays. The windows are all made of several lights with plate glass sashes, and the outer bays are bowed. The dormers, which have hell-cast roofs, were rebuilt during the renovation, as was the central attic window, although the latter does not follow the original design. The villa has arched window heads and round arches above the ground floor. Constructed from ashlar, it includes columned jambs and mullions, as well as decorative cast-iron balconies on the first floor and bracketed eaves. The original iron cresting has been removed, and the roofs are covered with slate. There are no doors on the main front, and the boundary wall is also made of ashlar. Inside, the villa features good plasterwork.
