A central round-headed doorway with roll-moulded arrises is located in the south wall. Various square-headed openings are present on each face, some of which are blocked and others sit below relieving arches. The angles feature the base of corbelled bartizans linked by chequer-corbelling. The castle is roofless. Fairlie Castle is designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument, No. 317.
