Description
The Parker Memorial Hall, located on Main Road in Fairlie, was designed by J J Stevenson in 1892, with assistance from H Walker of Fairlie. It incorporates an earlier school building dating from around 1830 to 1840. The hall is a two-storey building arranged in an L-shape with a gabled design, and includes a two-bay porch on its north side and a single-storey lesser hall attached to the south.
The exterior is constructed from coursed and squared red or white rubble stone, with yellow ashlar dressings. The west elevation features a porch with a door and window on the left side. The main hall displays square-headed tripartite windows in the advanced and gabled bay to the left. Ground floor windows have ogival tracery, with blind inner lights, while other ground floor window heads are also ogival. Above, there are square-headed bipartite windows. A string course runs between the floors of the remaining bays. A tall, off-centre stepped stack with a projecting chimney breast and an octagonal flue is a prominent feature. An eaves band, skews, and an axial ventilator are also visible. The lesser hall has a canted west front with three bays, each featuring ogival window heads and a faceted roof. An ogival-headed door is located in the linking bay. The entire structure is roofed with slate.
The hall was formally opened as the Parker Memorial Hall on 16 November 1892.
