Description
East Kersland is an early 19th century, two-storey, three-bay farmhouse that is attached to a 17th century 'L'-plan house, which is now used as a farm building. The property features a 'U'-plan yard. The farmhouse is constructed of coursed droved rubble, with painted ashlar margins and lugged windows. A central door is located behind a modern rubble and glass porch, and above it is a re-used datestone featuring dog-tooth moulding, a crest, and the inscription "Kersland 1604 Daniel Ker." The building has an eaves course, cornice, scrolled skewputts, end stacks, and a slate roof. The 17th century house has some visible small window openings, crowstepped gables, and a slate roof as well. To the left, the farm buildings are single-storey with a loft, built of rubble, and contain several original openings and small ventilating slits for the loft. Additionally, there is a 17th or 18th century garden wall with flat stone coping, which has a blocked narrow gateway and a round tower at the north-west corner.
