Description
Manish Free Church, built in 1853, features a manse alongside it, which is listed separately. The church was largely established through the efforts of Iain Godha, also known as John Morison, who was a bard and evangelist. The exterior is harled with slate roofs.
The church has an unusual double-pile design with an M-shaped roof. It includes flat-lintelled single windows, sash and case, with a horizontal glazing pattern. The east entrance front has three bays with pointed Gothic openings, a doorway set in a shallow advanced gable, and blind outer windows. There is a low gabled vestry outshot on the west flank, located behind the pulpit, as well as a modern lavatory addition.
Inside, cast-iron columns support the valley roof, with v-lining on the ceiling, dados, and behind the pulpit. The pulpit and precentor's box feature plain timber panels. Iain Godha, who was a blacksmith by trade, is believed to have contributed to the church's construction, including providing ironwork such as hinges for the pulpit.
