Description
The Clydesdale Bank, located at 52 High Street in Fochabers, was designed by architect James Duncan from Turriff and dates back to 1878. This building features two storeys and an attic, with an irregular four-bay layout that serves as a bank, dwelling, and shop. The front is made of tooled ashlar with polished ashlar dressings, while the sides are harled.
The entrance is off-centre, with the bank entrance on the left flanked by windows, and a shop door on the right accompanied by narrow side lights. The first-floor windows are corniced, and in the eastern outer bay, there is a wide tripartite window. A deep bandcourse separates the ground floor from the first floor, and the glazing consists of 2- and 4-pane designs. The building features rusticated quoins, decorative cast-iron rainwater goods, broad coped end stacks, and a slate roof.
