Description
The Castle, located at 29 Caroline Street in Forres, is a mid to late 18th century, two-storey building designed in an L-shape. It features a later 19th century addition that creates a U-shaped frontage facing Caroline Street. The exterior is rendered and lined to resemble ashlar stone. The entrance is situated at the angle of the building but is currently obscured by a single-storey lean-to porch that extends across the east-facing re-entrant.
On the northeast gable, there are two ground floor windows, one first-floor window, and a small attic window. The southeast gable has a central door flanked by windows and a bull's eye window above, all of which face Caroline Street. The windows are fitted with 12-pane glazing. The building has corniced and coped end stacks, a slate roof, and a stone ridge.
