Description

This is a late 18th-century bridge of three spans constructed of rubble stone, with the arch rings being segmental. The central arch is slightly larger than the two flanking arches. The bridge features triangular cutwaters with coped parapets, both constructed of tooled rubble stone, and has splayed approaches leading up to it. The approximate spans are 12 feet, 18 feet, and 12 feet. The bridge crosses the River Isla. John Hume’s The Industrial Archaeology of Scotland (volume II, 1977, page 178) provides further information.
