Description
West Church Manse is a later 19th-century, two-storey house with an asymmetric and gabled design. It is constructed from squared and snecked rubble, featuring ashlar dressings and a base course. The windows have chamfered reveals that stop before the chamfered cill. The gables display a kingpost detail, and the eaves are deep and overhanging.
The north elevation, which is the entrance side, has four bays. The two left bays are advanced and gabled, while the two right bays are lower. There is a decorative timber porch in the re-entrant angle of the bay to the right of centre, with a door located on the left return. The left bay has a bipartite window at ground level, and there is a window in the outer right bay.
The west elevation consists of two bays, with an advanced gabled bay on the left. It features a bipartite window on both the ground and first floors, along with a moulded panel in the gablehead. The bay to the right has a canted window with a half-pitched roof at ground level and a dormer-headed bipartite window with a finial on the first floor.
On the east elevation, there are three bays, with a lean-to conservatory attached to the right. The central gabled bay has a fanlit door and a window to the right at ground level, and a window and a small window to the right at the first floor. The left bay is recessed and has a single-storey asymmetrically gabled wing attached in the re-entrant angle, featuring a boarded door to the left and a half-glazed window at the centre on the north elevation. There is also a window and a blocked gablehead opening to the left of centre on the east elevation, along with a small gabled coal chute canopy attached to the left of the south elevation, which intercepts the boundary wall.
The south elevation has two gabled bays on the left with regularly spaced fenestration. There are single-storey wings in the re-entrant angle to the right of the east elevation.
The windows are primarily sash and case, with irregularly sized panes, including 3 and 6-pane configurations, as well as some 2 and 4-pane windows. The roof features coped and fluted stacks, with a shouldered wallhead, a moulded panel, and breaking eaves to the right on the north side and a gablehead on the east. There is a small coped gablehead stack on the wing of the east elevation, and the roof is covered with purple-grey slates. Some original rainwater goods are still present, along with a snow catcher on the east pitch.
