Description

This is a late 18th century bridge, of segmental-arch design with a single span, crossing the River South Esk. The bridge is constructed from tooled, coursed pink sandstone, featuring a polished, chamfered arch ring and polished coping. It has splayed wing walls. The bridge provides picturesque access to the now disused Castle Quarry. It is part of a group of buildings with group value, alongside Dalhousie Castle, two follies positioned on the west and east banks of the River South Esk, West Lodge, and Grove Farm (formerly the Dalhousie Walled Garden). Historic maps from 1852 and 1892 show the bridge in its original context.
