Description

The burial ground at Cockpen Old Parish Church is enclosed by a coped sandstone rubble wall. A gateway is located on the north side, featuring long and short stugged dressings and an iron gate. The burial ground contains several 18th-century headstones. The church itself is a Scheduled Monument (No. 1186) and is excluded from this listing. Records associated with the burial ground, including church and heritors' records, are held at the National Archives of Scotland. Historical accounts of the parish and local area, dating back to 1881 and 1955, provide further context. An Ordnance Survey map from 1854 depicts the area.
