Description
The Tollhouse located at 123 Hunterfield Road in Newtonloan is an early 19th century, two-storey, three-bay rectangular-plan house. It is constructed from painted, tooled and coursed rubble with droved dressings. The building features projecting cills, an eaves course, long and short quoins, and louvred shutters on the windows.
The west elevation, which serves as the entrance, is symmetrical with an architraved doorway at the center of the ground floor. This doorway has a panelled timber door topped with a small-pane fanlight, and there is a window in each of the flanking bays. The first floor has regular fenestration.
On the south elevation, there is a window that is off-centre to the right on both the ground and first floors. The east elevation has a modern timber flat-roofed porch at the center of the ground floor, flanked on the right by a window, and a window is located at the center of the first floor.
The north elevation is asymmetrical, featuring a window at the center of the ground floor and another window that is off-centre to the left on the first floor.
The house has predominantly modern glazing and a grey slate roof with a lead ridge, along with two modern skylights. The stone skews are present, and there are coped stone gablehead stacks with octagonal cans. The building also has cast-iron rainwater goods. The interior was not seen in 1998.
