Description

The site comprises a walled garden and a later 19th-century stable range, with a lower east wing. The stable range is constructed of coursed rubble with a slated roof. Curved screen walls feature a vehicular entrance, with square piers of a later date flanking pedestrian gates; stag antlers are set on pedestals, and wrought-iron gates are present.

The south elevation’s long west range has a modern glazed infill to the centre, a spirelet ventilator above, a blocked arch to the right, and a 12-pane sash window to the left. Further features include modern patio doors, a replacement window, a gable chimney stack and a later flat-roofed extension to the left. The lower east wing, twin gabled, has a base course, stone skews and putts, ornate stone finials, and a blind gable to the left. The right gable has a single 12-pane sash window, an infilling to an attic light in the gablehead, a later chimney stack to the right, and a modern brick archway. An adjoining older glass house is present, constructed of painted stone and timber with an ornate metal finial.

The north elevation’s lower east wing (rear) has a blind wall of the glass house and a door to the right. The gable end features a bowed window, paired 8-pane sash and case windows and an infilling to an attic light in the gablehead. The long west range (rear) displays skew gabling, a single 6-pane light, modern Velux dormers in the roof, a part open timber lean-to porch in the re-entrant angle, a bipartite 12-pane window and twin bipartite windows to the end, with Velux roof lights to each return. A modern extension is located to the right.

The east elevation has a glass house adjoining the walled garden and gateway. The west elevation adjoins the walled garden, which is possibly early 19th century rubble, with a later gate in the south wall elevation.

Most windows are 12-pane timber sash and case, though some are modern replacements. The roof is piended slate. The interior was not inspected in 2000.

This complex formerly served as the original stable block and walled garden of Glencorse House, which is listed separately. The site is now separated from the main estate. The statutory address is Gillieknowe (Former Glencorse House Stables), including gate piers, gates, quadrant walls and the walled garden.
