Description
This is a viaduct built around 1900. It is a curved structure featuring ten segmental arches. The arch rings and piers are constructed from brick, while the abutments are built from rock-faced masonry. A low stone parapet runs along the top, now surmounted by modern metal safety railing, though sections of the original iron railings remain.
The viaduct is located near Auchendinny on the former Edinburgh and Penicuik Railway, which was opened in 1872 and later became part of the North British Railway in 1876. The railway ceased commercial operation in 1967, but the viaduct now forms part of a public walk and cycle path. The statutory address is Old Woodhouselee Railway Viaduct over River North Esk.
