Description
Gourock Ropeworks, built in the 1860s, originally served as a sugar refinery before becoming a ropeworks. This tall L-shaped building is located on a corner site and features red brick with contrasting yellow dressings. It has a regular arrangement of bays and stands eight storeys high, including mainly blind circular openings in the basement and a shallow attic storey. The other openings are shallow-arched, and the large windows have 12-pane glazing. The building has moulded eaves and low piended slated roofs. Inside, the construction is fireproof, with cast-iron beams and columns, as well as brick arches.
