Description
West Quay in Port Glasgow is a quay that dates from the late 18th to early 19th century. It is faced with coursed squared rubble blocks, featuring paired stones that project about 3 feet below the deck, which were designed to hold vertical timber buffers; some of these timbers still remain at the eastern end. The quay has a curved shape at the western end. There are rails that once supported a crane used to lift buoys from a storage area to a tender. Near the center, there is modern sheet-piling, and closer to the eastern end, there are stone steps. Additionally, cast-iron bollards are present, and causey setts can be found in the nid section, likely covered by tar.
