Description

The Wick Heritage Centre, located at 19-27 Bank Row in Wick, is a row of three terraced houses built in the earlier 19th century. The leftmost house is a broad, symmetrical, rectangular-plan, two-storey building with three bays, featuring harled Caithness slab-stone coursers. To the right, there is a symmetrical pair of two-storey houses with attics, also in a rectangular plan, constructed from snecked and coursed Caithness stone slabs.

For Nos. 19 and 21, the north elevation facing Bank Row has a panelled door at the centre and a predominantly regular arrangement of windows, with lugged projecting margins around the openings. The left bay features a plate glass shop front, and there is an additional window to the right of the door. The south elevation has single-storey gabled wings on both sides, flanking a central flagstone courtyard, with irregular fenestration.

No. 23 has a similar north elevation with a panelled door at the centre and a letterbox fanlight. The fenestration is mostly regular, except for a segmental-arch pend to the left bay. There is a canted dormer on the left side. The south elevation features a three-storey, four-bay gabled curing house at the rear.

No. 27 also has a north elevation with a centrally located door and a letterbox fanlight, along with regular fenestration and canted dormers. The south elevation shows irregular fenestration and a flagstone curing yard.

Inside, the building has been converted into a partially open-plan Heritage Centre. It features 12-pane sash and case windows, grey slate roofing with lead flashing, coped gable end stacks, and cast-iron rainwater goods.
