Description
This is an earlier or mid-18th century dovecot, a tall, square structure. It is built of harl-pointed coursed rubble. The east elevation features a simple, chamfered architrave above the entrance. The roof is a pyramidal slate roof with a swept dormer on the south side and flight holes; the remains of an apex cupola are also present.
The interior is circular and features walls lined with over 500 stone nesting boxes, commencing approximately 3 feet from the ground. A potence, a revolving ladder, survives within the dovecot. According to an unpublished manuscript by A. Niven Robertson from around 1958, this is an example of an old Scottish dovecot.
