Description
The Tanera More fishing station is a substantial two-storey range built in 1785. It is fronted by a high-walled courtyard, entered through a segmental-headed archway. The building is constructed of rubble with tooled ashlar rubble dressings, and features 12 bays along the courtyard elevation. The first three bays facing the sea were formerly a dwelling house, likely for the station manager. The building is now roofless.
A quay, also dating to 1785 and repaired in 1939-40, is located adjacent to the station. It consists of a rubble pier with a wall along the seaward face, slightly curved to partially enclose a shallow basin.
The fishing station was originally built and managed by a London company and a Mr Roderick Morrison from Stornoway. In 1939-40, Dr Frank Fraser-Darling (later Sir Frank) purchased the surrounding land and restored the farmland, also carrying out repairs to the quay.
