Description
The Clydesdale Bank, located at 15 Traill Street in Thurso, was designed by architect J Russell Mackenzie from Aberdeen in 1866. This two-storey bank features a five-bay southeast street frontage, complemented by additional curved bays at the corners and a three-bay southwest frontage facing Cowie Lane. The end curved bays are flanked by giant pilasters, and there is a round-headed entrance at the junction of Traill Street and Cowie Lane, along with another entrance on Traill Street. The ground floor has round-headed openings, which are wider in the outer bays, and there is detailed long and short treatment on the doors and ground floor windows. A cill bank connects the first-floor windows, and there are eaves banks, a cornice, and a blocking course. The roof features three canted dormers, paired ridge stacks, and an end stack, all beneath a shallow piended slate roof. At the rear, there is a modern lean-to addition and a forestair.
