Description

Coulmony House is a house dated 1750, featuring a symmetrical two-storey and attic design with a five-bay southeast-facing frontage. The exterior is constructed of rubble with ashlar dressings, although some modern harling is present at the rear, which includes a partially modern service wing. The entrance is centrally located and corniced, with reeded detailing on the jambs. It has a double-leaf panelled door topped by a narrow fanlight. Above the entrance is a worn dated panel with a bracketed cornice, and there is a raised gable with an apex stack and a small central window that has chamfered jambs and a shouldered lintel. The window architraves throughout the building feature simple chamfers. At the rear, there are two piended dormers, mostly with 12-pane glazing, and end stacks, all beneath a slate roof.

A wide projecting modern porch, built around 1970, is located at the centre of the northeast gable and connects to a modern single-storey and attic service and garage wing, which is set back from the main house and has three piended dormers.

Inside, the ground floor rooms have simple moulded cornices, and the south ground floor room features shell-headed, key-stoned alcoves that flank an Adamesque chimney piece.

The property also includes a large early to mid-19th century walled garden, constructed of rubble with a rounded rubble cope.
