Description

Fort Augustus Bridge, built in 1934 by Mears and Carus-Wilson, is a three-span reinforced concrete bridge faced with rubble masonry and features tooled ashlar dressings. The bridge has a wide shallow tooled ashlar arch, which is flanked by smaller arch rings, also with tooled ashlar dressings. Triangular cutwaters rise as buttresses against the spandrels, and there is a tooled rubble cope to the parapet. The approximate spans of the arches are 60 feet for the center arch and 25 feet for the side arches.
