Description
The Masonic Lodge on Invergordon Road in Alness was originally designed as a United Presbyterian Church by Alexander Ross between 1863 and 1864 in Inverness, and it was re-erected in Alness in 1900. The building is in the Decorated Gothic style, constructed from rubble with tooled ashlar dressings. It has a rectangular plan with a projecting porch on the west gable, featuring a moulded recessed entrance, nook shafts, and a cusped head. This porch is flanked by square-headed lancet windows with hoodmoulds. The south and north elevations each have three hoodmoulded traceried windows, separated by alternating buttresses. The east end boasts a very large decorated traceried window, supported by buttresses. Additional decorative elements include ornamental skewputts, a central ridge fleche, apex finials, and a slate roof.
