Description
St Michael's Church features a roofless chancel and a restored nave, both of which are used as burial grounds. The chancel dates back to the 16th century and serves as a burial site for the Shaw-Mackenzies of Newhall. It has a blocked Gothic bipartite east gable and a similar south elevation. There is a bead and hollow moulded door, with re-used run-off stops at lintel height and moulded footings. The later nave has a slate roof and a single Gothic window. The site includes interesting tombstones and monuments from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries, as well as the remains of a moulded curved arched wall tomb recess located along the line of the older church, near the present nave door.
