Description
The River Tarff Intake is part of the Foyers Hydroelectric Power Scheme and the former Aluminium Smelter, likely designed by Cameron Burnett for the British Aluminium Company between 1895 and 1896, with later alterations. This D-plan water intake is situated on the banks of the River Tarff. It features a wall made of coursed random rubble with a deep rectangular section, which steps inward at the curved section that supports the upper part. In the later 20th century, modifications were made to install metal screens over the outlet to the aqueduct and iron railings along the top.
