Description

The dovecot at Stemster House dates from the late 17th to early 18th century. It is a square, roofless structure made of rubble, featuring a central door on the south elevation and flightholes above. A rat course encircles the building, providing an alighting ledge for the flightholes, with remnants of an upper rat course visible on the east and west gables. There is a blocked central vent at the rear. The interior is in ruins, but some stone nesting boxes and brick buttresses remain. In front of the dovecot, there is a simple square rubble pedestal that supports a rubble plinth with a stone plaque inscribed "The Unknown Kirk."
