Description
The site includes a mid-18th century garden pavilion and associated walled garden. The pavilion is a small, square, two-storey structure with three bays. It is built of harled rubble with polished ashlar dressings and margins. The west-facing front facade features a central door and small, framed windows, with similarly detailed, taller windows in the outer bays of the first floor. The windows have 9-pane and 12-pane glazing. The pavilion has ashlar quoins, an eaves band, and a tall, corniced wallhead stack. Fluted end dies are topped with ball finials, and the pyramidal slate roof has a weather vane carved as a salmon. A first-floor door is located in the south gable, accessible by an external forestair, which is concealed from view by the garden wall. Both the ground floor door and the central first-floor window are blocked. A small lean-to addition is at the rear (east), with a corniced wallhead and a rear stack. The interior ground floor chamber retains a bolection moulded chimneypiece, although the interior is otherwise gutted. The walled garden is enclosed by high coped rubble walls, which flank the pavilion. A pair of mid-18th century square gate piers, made of channelled ashlar with a cornice and square cap, stand in the centre of the west wall, opposite the pavilion, and contain a pair of plain cast-iron gates. These piers are aligned with a pair in the east wall, located close to the main house.
